Before you look back though the archives, this is actually my first post all about NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. Each November, thousands upon thousands of people from around the world participate in this event, all in hopes of reaching 50,000 words and winning that sweet, sweet prize that is accumulating enough words to make a novel. I don’t have the statistics off-hand on how many succeed (I’m too lazy to do the research), but there have been several famous books that have been completed during past events.

It snowed!

And that would have been a good thing, if it had happened on the weekend. There would have been much rejoicing in our household, as the kids would have been outside and I would have had time to finish reading another book (no, I’m not procrastinating, why would you ask such a thing?!). But as luck would have it, it happened Sunday night. And it was windy. Which meant that the roads were slick, school was cancelled, and I was at my wit’s end on what to do with a bunch of rowdy children stuck inside and whining about how cold and bored they were.

I’m always, always doing something with my hands. When I’m drinking coffee, I’m holding a book. When I’m watching a show on TV (The Haunting of Bly Manor and Scream Queens are in the rotation at the moment), I have a crochet project I’m working on. When I’m walking, I have a fidget cube. There is never a moment when my hands are not doing something.

For as long as I can remember (yesterday, I can sorta remember yesterday), I’ve had the unfortunate problem of Word Vomit. I open my mouth to put forth my very organized and succinct thoughts, and instead spit out terrible innuendos, wandering tangents, and misremembered talking points. It’s not as if I weren’t paying attention to the conversation (because I am!), but my brain and my mouth sometimes refuse to cooperate. Which leads me into the title of today’s post: Dumbassery and Inner Shame.
